Reflection of Learning

Term three

Basic facts

I have been doing a mixed basic facts sheet everyday.
My goal for this term was to achieve 50 out of 100.  My best score last term was 24/100.
This term my average is 40!  What a huge improvement.  I feel proud of my success.  I have made another bar graph to track my progress.
I am getting more right because I have been learning multiplication.
My goal for term four is 100%

Tech

I have been sewing.  I have made a pin cushion and a screen printed cushion.
My sewing skills have improved greatly since last year.
I have enjoyed sewing. Its fun.
I am not sure what my goal is for woodwork in term four.

Reading

I have taken more control of my reading this term.
I was unhappy reading Sunshine Books because they are for little kids.
We went to Nga Manawa and asked Mrs Costello to help us pick some appropriate books.
When we start a new book Abi reads the whole book to me an we discuss it.  Then everyday I read three or four pages to Abi and I independently write three sentences about what I have read.  After I have typed this up in my literacy folder I can watch a video related to the book.
I have read The Day the Crayons Quit, Indianna Jones Indy's Adventures and Splat the Cat.
I feel good about doing literacy like this.
My goal for term four is

Transition to High School

Every second Tuesday I have been to Grey High with Mrs Hooker.  I have learned about TWK.
Its been fun.
I enjoyed going to the special olympics basketball tournament and playing in the Grey High team.
I am looking forward to more high school visits next term

World instruments

Zak has really enjoyed reading this book about world instruments.  We researched each instrument using his Chrome Book and listened to an example of each.  Zak liked the didgeridoo the best so he did some Aboriginal dot art.

Today he completed a chart about where the instruments come from, wrote a sentence about the missing instrument and drew a picture of a woman playing a sitar!

Basic Facts
I have learned to do my 2 and five times tables through skip counting.

I feel my basic facts have improved. I can see this by looking at my basic facts results graph.

My goal for term three is to get 50/50.  To do this I need to have a go at all the questions

Tech
I have learned how to make potato wedges.

I enjoyed cooking.

Prep

I have learned how to make Christmas decorations.

I felt proud and happy because I worked well with the little kids.

Reading

I have read Amazing Ears, Dragon with a Cold, Letters for Mr James, and World Instruments

I have learned lots of new things about ears, animals and instruments.

I liked listening to the didgeridoo.

My goal for term three is to read more books.

Speech

A Poem About Rain

Little drops of  rain, sometimes it  floods.
They are white circles.
Cold and wet they drip drop  down.

This shows Zak writing creatively and descriptively. This relates to the class room topic of water.

Thursday, 24 March 2016

Topic: WATER

Zak is learning about the water cycle.
When the sun goes hard it the water goes up to the clouds. That's why when people drive in cars they see steam on the road because the water vapor is going up to the clouds.  When the clouds get full the water falls out.  It rains.  The rain goes into creeks and makes floods.

Going up Mount Kahikatea was not fun because it was too far.

Curious Cove

I went on camp Monday.  When we hopped o the bus we had fun and we had a big acorn fight.  When we got to Reefton I saw my Auntie Karen.  Someone was sick on the bus and no windows were open.  I hopped off the bus at Picton.  The boat was really big.  We loaded the bags on the boat and Mr B nearly through a bag in the water.  Then we went to Curious Cove. I shared a cabin with Zac Crop and Jack.
On Tuesday we did camp activities. We did the walk up Mt Kahikatea and walked back down. It was too far and my legs hurt.
The next day we did the boat ride and did fishing.  Dion caught a kawai.  I didnt catch anything. Something bit Tony's hand line and ate the bait. I put some more bait on.  After that we went back to camp.
On Thursday we did the flying fox. It was fun and cool but I didnt keep my legs out so I nearly fell out. It had a seat belt. I didnt scream.  When we got back to camp we did kayaking. I tipped the boat in a deep part.  It was good.
On Friday we went got up early, about five or six,  and hopped on the boat. We put the bags on the trailer.  I carried about 200 bags and that's why my arms are sore. We had homemade buns for lunch near a beach.  I didnt have a travel sick pill and I didnt throw up.  Then we came back to GreyMain school.
